Organizational Change

Organizational change programs to reduce risk are being accomplished through:

Risk Mitigation Teams (RMTs)

RMTs are small cross-functional teams designed to address specific safety problems that do not fall within the domain of a single department within the FRA or the railroads, problems that cross organization boundaries, and incipient problems that may arise due to new technology, processes or unintended consequences of events. RMTs are composed of a diverse group of multi-functional and cross-disciplinary FRA employees, analysts, and subject matter experts. 

Secretary’s Safety Council

Risk Reduction Program staff serve as FRA representatives on Action Teams that serve the USDOT Safety Council, a multi-modal organization composed of modal administrators, chief safety officers, and other safety leaders.
